Sex Ed Queeries

There's a need in the South for supplemental sex ed. People often turn to progressive Christian denominations to ensure that teens are learning about sexuality in a way that is healthy and queer-inclusive - and SOJOURN is committed to providing this education from a perspective grounded in Jewish values.

Sex Ed Queeries provides comprehensive, GSD-inclusive, age-appropriate curriculums for teens (ages 13-17) as well as 10 to 12-year-olds, delivered via YouTube, TikTok, and in person.

“We know that youth who are given structured opportunities to explore human development, relationships, contraception and disease prevention feel more informed, make safer choices and have healthier outcomes. These include fewer unplanned pregnancies and more protection against sexually transmitted infections. Rarely are youth of faith able to explore how tenets of their religious tradition may influence their choices.”

-Rebecca Stapel-Wax, SOJOURN Executive Director

“Our hope is to build better bridges of communication. Many families are uncomfortable talking about sexuality. This difficulty is compounded for LGBTQ+ teens as families are often not equipped with information specific to the needs of their gender or sexually diverse teens. We want to change that.

-McKenzie Wren, SOJOURN Program Director

"It has given me the opportunity to create the kind of content that I want to see in the world and that I wish I had while I was growing up ... I can only hope that the content that we've made and the things that we continue to do continue to help people and spread the knowledge and spread love and acceptance."

-Drew Mindell, Sex Ed Queeries Coordinator
